James McLennan has performed across Canada in a wide range of character and leading roles. This season’s highlights include Little Bat in Floyd’s Susannah at Manitoba Opera, Remendado in Carmen with Pacific Opera Victoria, Electrician in Powder Her Face with OOTA in St. John’s, and the tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Mass in C with the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir.

Last season included Gastone in La Traviata with Edmonton Opera and Pacific Opera Victoria, the Black Goose in Riel, Heart of the North with the Regina Symphony, and Handel’s Messiah with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. He was also a “coldly sadistic prison warden” (CBC) in Kiss of the Spider Woman with Dry Cold Productions. Previous stage credits include appearances with Montreal Opera, Calgary Opera, Vancouver Opera, Hamilton Opera, Opera Lyra Ottawa, and Flipside Opera in Winnipeg. James has been a voice instructor at the University of Manitoba’s Desautels Faculty of Music since 2017. When not performing or teaching, he deploys his language skills as a certified French translator.
