Give to Opera on the Avalon

Some stories beg to be told. A true storyteller transports us to another place and time, engages our intellect and imagination, and touches us on a deep emotional level. Opera on the Avalon continues to bring compelling stories to life through the magic of the singing voice: the most powerful, authentic, and expressive instrument of all. We are committed to presenting familiar favourites that have stood the test of time, modern works receiving critical acclaim, and new tellings of our own history.

Bringing together the talent, skill, and labor required to present professional productions of this scale requires exceptional support. As a supporter of Opera on the Avalon, your support and investment in our season is a reminder of the primary reason for the inherent value of the creative industries: life-enhancing, entertaining, and defining of our personal, provincial, and national identities. Investing in Opera on the Avalon is an investment in the quality of life for the people who live and work in our province. We bring together our own talent and some of the world’s most exciting professionals. Opera on the Avalon is committed to the business of the arts, stressing the integral purpose of culture along with the social, educational and economic benefits to our community at large.

Why Give?

A gift to Opera on the Avalon supports our mission to enhance the lives of Atlantic Canadians and spur regional pride through a variety of musical and theatrical experiences.

To accomplish our mission, we produce a world-class season including an annual summer festival and a MainStage musical, commission new works, build new audiences, and engage our community, while providing work to established professionals and nurturing emerging artists. By doing so, we strengthen the cultural and economic vitality of our national community.

Annual Giving

Thanks to your generosity, OOTA is able to nurture the careers of Canadian artists and artisans and to offer a season which presents familiar favourites that have stood the test of time, modern works receiving critical acclaim, and new tellings of our own history that enhance our national cultural identity.

Inclusion Statement

As an organization, we must now look at how we have operated in the past, how our values have evolved with our growing understanding of racial injustice, and how we can do our part in making the future – both within and outside of the arts – a better and safer place.

We must use our platform to tell new and relevant stories about and by those who have been historically underrepresented and excluded from the opera community.

We encourage artists and community members to please reach out and share ideas about how we can effectively create change in our organization and the performing arts sector. All voices are welcome on this journey to create a fully inclusive environment and demolish oppression in the arts.

Land Acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge the land on which we gather as the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk [bee-oth-uck], whose culture has now been erased forever. We also acknowledge the island of Ktaqmkuk [dah-gmm-gook] (Newfoundland) as the unceded, traditional territory of the Beothuk and the Mi’kmaq [mig-maw]. And we acknowledge Labrador as the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Innu [in-ew] of Nitassinan [ne-tass-eh-nen], the Inuit [in-yoo-eet] of Nunatsiavut [nu-nat-see-ah-vut], and the Inuit of NunatuKavut [nu-nah-tuhk-ah-vut]. We recognize all First Peoples who were here before us, those who live with us now, and the seven generations to come. As First Peoples have done since time immemorial, we strive to be responsible stewards of the land and to respect the cultures, ceremonies, and traditions of all who call it home. As we open our hearts and minds to the past, we commit ourselves to working in a spirit of truth and reconciliation to make a better future for all.
