Glynis Leyshon is one of Canada’s most respected opera and theatre directors.
For the opera stage this past season, the British Columbia native directed a rare production of Puccini’s Il trittico, three contrasting one-act operas for Pacific Opera Victoria.
Her latest opera engagement was a national tour of The Flight of the Hummingbird as Stage Director and Dramaturge. Other recent credits have included Handel’s Rodelinda and Lucia di Lammermoor for Pacific Opera Victoria, South Pacific, Mikado, Falstaff and Die Fledermaus for Calgary Opera, Albert Herring for Vancouver Opera and Pacific Opera Victoria and Madama Butterfly and La Traviata for Calgary Opera. Coming up, she directs Die Walküre for Pacific Opera Victoria and Falstaff for Vancouver Opera. Previously Artistic Director of Vancouver’s Playhouse Theatre and Victoria’s Belfry Theatre, Ms. Leyshon has a particular passion for working with and teaching young and emerging artists. In recognition of her contribution to the arts, she has been awarded Canada’s Commonwealth Medal.
